Butterfly Clicking

Two fingers, one button. Test your butterfly rate, then learn the mechanics and the mouse requirements.

How we keep measurements honest
Tab-switch voids the round

Leave the tab mid-test and the attempt is discarded, not scored.

Sub-80ms is a prediction

Humans can't react faster than ~80ms. Faster taps are flagged and excluded.

Input dedup at 100ms

Double-taps and macro bursts can't inflate a reading.

What is butterfly clicking?

Butterfly clicking alternates the index and middle finger on the same button, so while one presses the other is already resetting. That roughly doubles the sustainable rate over single-finger clicking.

How to butterfly click

Place index and middle finger side by side on the button. Press with one while lifting the other, in a pedalling motion. Keep the hand relaxed and build to a steady 10–14 CPS before chasing peak speed.

Frequently asked

Butterfly vs jitter — which is faster?
Butterfly is usually more sustainable and often faster for most people. Elite jitter can match it in short bursts.
Why are my clicks not registering?
Some mice debounce rapid alternating presses hard enough to swallow them. If clicks vanish mid-burst, that is the mouse, not your technique.
Does butterfly clicking break mice?
It concentrates wear on one switch from two fingers. Expect a shorter switch life on budget mice.
